Inking lets you put anything you want on the Ethereum blockchain. Using a browser integrated Ethereum wallet, Inkling lets you use the blockchain like you would use Twitter. Just like anything else on the blockchain, what you post is public. Unlike Twitter, what you post is permanent. No one can ever delete it, not even you. In a way, that's the blockchain power. Use it wisely and carefully. Inkling is - and will always remain - free.

What is Inkling?

You can think of it as Twitter meets the blockchain. Inkling lets anyone post anything to a very public arena, and whatever’s been posted can’t be deleted or modified ever by anyone. An internet tattoo of sorts.

How does it work?

Inkling is an Ethereum blockchain contract. You can use it through this website, or interact with it directly if you have the know-how. To use the website you need an Ethereum wallet extension installed in you browser.

So how’s it any different from Twitter or Pastebin?

Once you save data on a blockchain, it’s done. It’s there for good and no one, not even you, can modify or remove it. A Tweet will remain until Twitter decides to remove it, or closes its doors altogether. A block on the chain is eternal.

How do I login and read/post content?

In Inkling, your username/handle is your Ethereum account address. All your inks are associated to that address. You can have as many addresses as you like, just like Twitter accounts.

Do I need anything installed?

To allow your web browser to interact with the Ethereum blockchain, you would need to install the MetaMask browser extension (or any other web3 supplier). After installing the extension and reloading the page, you will automagically be logged in.

Can people without Metamask view Inks? Can Google index them?

Not at this point, but there are plans to allow regular browsing through the site in the future. An Ethereum wallet of some sort would always be required in order to post new content.

Do you charge for the service?

No, we don’t charge you anything to ink. But there’s a but...

All transactions on the blockchain have a certain inherent fee. When inking, the more data you write, the more fee you would pay. This fee is a part of the blockchain mechanism, and eventually goes to sustaining the system. Of course, the ink fee will be known to you before committing to anything. You’ll see it in Metamask.

What guarantees my posts would not be censored?

Blockchains are distributed in nature, meaning they are stored on any computer that desires to store them. Effectively, when you save data on the Ethereum blockchain, it's being saved to thousands of locations around the world. Anyone wanting to delete or alter the data has to have the collaboration of at least 50% of the people in the network, and as time passes those people stand more and more to lose by the deletion of your tiny ink.
